22 kwi 2024 · CMS is finalizing a total nurse staffing standard, based on public comment feedback, that requires facilities to provide a minimum of 3.48 HPRD of total direct nursing care to residents, of which at least 0.55 HPRD of care must be provided by RNs and 2.45 HPRD of care provided by nurse aides.
US nursing homes are required to have sufficient nursing staff with the appropriate competencies to assure resident safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Minimum nurse staffing levels have been identified in research studies and recommended by experts.

Infection preventionist (IP) staffing in nursing homes (NHs) is now required as part of new federal regulations. In this study, we examined IP staffing changes from 2014 to 2018 and found relatively few changes over time.
