Solution is to (1) find the original media folder, (2) copy the entire folder (temporarily) to a new location, (3) relink your project footage to the new folder, then (4) relink to the original folder location (and delete the temporary folder you created). This immediately solved it for me. I am trying to understand how to fix this.
