8 lut 2018 · Arguing that fashion has occurred in cultures beyond the West throughout history, this groundbreaking book explores the geographic places and historical spaces that have been largely neglected by contemporary fashion studies, bringing them together for the first time.
This paper is built on an interdisciplinary model stemming from fashion studies towards semiotics, sociology and cultural and art history. I define 'fashion' as a permanently changing progeny of modernity linked to capitalism and consumerism, but also to modernism and technological progress.
The volume concludes with a critical view of fashion and globalisation, and explores the deep connections between the fashion industry, the global economy, and the politics of production and wearing in the contemporary world.
