To return to Jacob’s family, the descendants are grouped around Jacob’s two wives and their two maids who became Jacob’s concubines. If we add up the number of sons (and grandsons) of these four, we arrive at seventy people (Leah 33, Zilpah 16, Rachel 14, Bilhah 7).

22 kwi 2024 · 1. Jacob’s Marriages to Leah and Rachel. When Jacob reached his uncle Laban’s home, he fell head over heels in love with Laban’s youngest daughter Rachel. Jacob offered to work for Laban for seven years to secure a marriage with Rachel. After seven years, the wedding took place.
Jacob had 2 primary wives, the sisters, Leah and Rachel. He also had two lessor wives (concubines), who were the handmaids of each primary wife. Jacob, who was renamed Israel by The Most High, was the father of 12 sons (numbered above according to their birth) and one daughter.
Leah was the oldest daughter of Laban and sister to Rachel. Laban, although he agreed to have Jacob marry Rachel after he worked for him for seven years, deceived Jacob into marrying Leah first (Genesis 29).
