The Expanded Bible incorporates within each line the information one would find in a variety of Bible reference works, making it possible to read and study the Bible at the same time. The base text is a modified version of the New Century Version, a clear and accurate, meaning-based (functional-equivalent) Bible version.
The classic edition is an expanded version from 1987. It was originally published (both OT and NT) in 1965. In 2015 they re-released it with further updates to the text. Many have not bought into this newer version. If you buy the AMP today, you'll most likely get this version from 2015.
The Amplified Bible of 2015 includes more amplification in the Old Testament and refined amplification in the New Testament. Additionally, the Bible text has been improved to read smoothly with or without amplifications, so that the text may be read either way.

Not infrequently, the Amplified Bible uses a traditional translation of an obscure word such as “firmament” but then offers a rendering that will be easier for modern readers to grasp: “[expanse]” (Gen 1:7).
