Lesson Overview. In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn about Isaac’s twin sons named Jacob and Esau. Esau was the older brother which meant that he got the birthright. The birthright meant that when Isaac died, Esau would get all of his money and land. That was a big deal.

If Esau had some self-control, he wouldn’t have given up his birthright so easily. His birthright promised him land, animals, money, and all of his dad’s belongings.

But Esau threw it all away because he wanted that soup so much. He cared more about filling his belly than he cared about the special thing God had given him. Esau only thought about what he wanted now.
