All our data, as well as added functionality, is available through the Ensembl Perl API. Use the API to retrieve gene and transcript sets, fetch alignments between sequences, compare allele frequencies and much more!
The Ensembl project produces genome databases for vertebrates and other eukaryotic species, and makes this information freely available online. Want to use GRCh38? Our main site features the GRCh38 Homo sapiens assembly, with the latest gene models, variants, regulatory build and more! Learn more about how to migrate your data to GRCh38.
This site provides a data set based on the February 2009 Homo sapiens high coverage assembly GRCh37 from the Genome Reference Consortium. This assembly was used by UCSC to create their hg19 database.
The help pages provide text, labelled images and, in some cases, help videos to describe what you can see on the page and how to interact with it. The Region in detail page is made up of three images, let’s look at each one in detail.
Gene sequences can be downloaded from the Ensembl browser itself, or through the use of the BioMart web interface, which can extract information from the Ensembl databases without the need for programming knowledge by the user!
You can download data directly from the Ensembl genome browser. Click on the button when in the Location tab to export sequences and/or features from the genomic region in different formats:
