Fuel oil systems rely on fuel pumps to deliver the fuel from the storage tanks to the burners or engines. Common issues with fuel pumps include pump failure, improper fuel pressure, and airlock. Pump failure can be caused by wear and tear, inadequate maintenance, or electrical issues.
INSTALLATION STEPS. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate the pump as near to the fuel tank as possible, near the existing fuel line, and away from any exhaust system components. Using the bracket, mount the fuel pump with the outlet toward the engine and the terminals facing downward.
The best location for mounting the electric fuel pump is at the rear of the vehicle as close as possible to the fuel tank/cell. Inlet and outlet ports of the pump must be positioned at or below the level of the fuel pickup inside the tank/cell. This is necessary to allow for an adequate fuel supply.
The schematic diagram provides a visual representation of how the different components of the fuel pump system are connected and how the electrical current flows through them. The schematic usually includes symbols for the fuel pump, relay, fuse, wiring connections, and ground.
Add a fuel system cleaner and/or dry gas to the fuel supply 3-4 times per year to ensure a clean fuel supply. Contact your JEG’S Tech. Department should problems arise.
