Calculating Benefit Payment Amounts. Your Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) depends on your annual income. It is estimated as 60 to 70 percent of the wages you earned 5 to 18 months before your claim start date and up to the maximum WBA. Note: Your claim start date is the date your disability begins.

Calculating the Weekly Benefit Rate. Your Weekly Benefit Rate is the amount you can receive if you are eligible for benefits for a week and your benefits are not reduced for any reason. Your Weekly Benefit Rate is calculated based on the wages you were paid in your base year.
To get SDI benefits you must have earned at least $300 in your base period and you must have paid SDI taxes on those earnings. SDI then takes that 12-month base period and divides it into four quarters. The quarter when you earned the most money is the quarter they use to decide your benefit amount.
