22 sie 2024 · Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded in 1629 when King Charles I granted a charter to the Massachusetts Bay Company for the purpose of establishing a settlement between the Charles River and the Merrimack River in New England and engaging in trade. The members of the company were Puritans.
The second, larger Puritan colony of Massachusetts Bay was conceived as a "city upon a hill." But it also struggled with internal turmoil—like the Salem Witch Trials—and external conflict, like King Philip's (Metacom's) War.
