28 wrz 2024 · The 2-6-0 wheel arrangement, known as Moguls were another of the early steam locomotive designs similar to the 4-6-0 Ten-wheeler and 2-8-0 Consolidation.
The first North American example of this type of locomotive was built for the Louisiana & Nashville Railroad in 1864. At the time it was the largest locomotive and got its name from the Mohammedan Empire (India). more than 11,000 Moguls were built between 1860 and 1910.
2 lip 2006 · A 2-6-0 had 50 percent more adhesion than a 4-4-0, and cost less than a 4-6-0. Thus it became a popular freight engine on many railroads. It acquired the name Mogul, presumably because it could produce more power than a 4-4-0, the standard locomotive of the day.
The 2-6-0 Mogul is a model of Wabash Railroad's number 573, a fine example of a smoothly performing steam locomotive. There is a wide range of silhouettes and designs the builder may choose from if he wishes to individualize the basic design.
Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, 2-6-0 represents the wheel arrangement of two leading wheels on one axle, usually in a leading truck, six powered and coupled driving wheels on three axles and no trailing wheels. This arrangement is commonly called a Mogul.
17 sty 2024 · The 2-6-0 "Mogul" was a coal-fed, steam-based locomotive design. On paper, the design succeeded the earlier 2-4-0 types and preceded the subsequent 2-6-2 arrangement. The 2-6-0 was classified as such due to its three large wheels per frame side led by a paired smaller set at the front (positioned on a "swing-axle" swiveling truck / bogie assembly).
