20 sie 2021 · TxDOT has launched the Faces of Drunk Driving Campaign after at least 900 people died every year on Texas roads for the last 10 years as a direct result of DUI-alcohol-related car crashes.
DUI-alcohol related crash fatalities represented 25% of all crash fatalities in Texas in 2019. The “Plan While You Can” campaign features the Faces of Drunk Driving as a way for victims to share their personal stories through TV public service announcements, social media, digital ads and media interviews.
In the ten-year period from 2014 to 2023, more than 37 percent of traffic fatalities in Texas involved drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs. The majority of these fatalities occurred between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday. Driving under the influence (DUI) crash fatalities are highest among males between the ages of 19 and 35.
Last year there were 963 DUI-alcohol related fatalities. That means on average, a person in Texas dies every nine hours and six minutes as a result of a traffic crash involving alcohol. ”Drinking and driving can lead to tragic consequences that are 100% preventable,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams.
