29 lip 2024 · Drontal is a safe medication for cats when following the dosing that your veterinarian recommends. It is designed to offer gentle and effective control against intestinal parasites in kittens 8 weeks and older, adult cats, senior cats, and even pregnant cats.
The recommended dose rates are 57.5 mg/kg pyrantel embonate and 5 mg/kg praziquantel. This is equivalent to one Drontal Cat Film-coated Tablet per 4 kg body weight and 1 Drontal Cat XL Film-coated Tablet per 6 kg body weight. See dosage chart below for examples:

Dosage and Administration. To assure proper dosage, weigh the cat prior to treatment. Select the number of whole or partial tablets needed for the cat from the following table. *NOT FOR USE IN KITTENS LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OF AGE OR WEIGHING LESS THAN 2 LBS. Drontal Tablets may be given directly by mouth or offered in a small amount of food.
Drontal Cat XL Film-coated Tablets are unscored coated white to yellowish, ellipsoid, biconvex tablets, each containing 345 mg pyrantel embonate and 30 mg praziquantel with 2.6 mg Titanium Dioxide (E171).
The dose rate is 1 tablet per 6 kg liveweight. Doses should be rounded up to the nearest 1⁄2 tablet. Safety. Drontal may be used concurrently with other treatments, such as Advantage for flea control. Dose rates 5x those recommended have been readily tolerated in clinical studies.
