Orbinaut Framework 2 is the successor to the original Orbinaut Framework, a classic Sonic framework created for GameMaker. It prioritises ease-of-use and has a certain level of templating at its core (as it basically should), making it friendly for both beginners and advanced users.
Drag & Drop. With Buildbox Classic, building 2D games and prototyping is not only simple but fast. Drag and drop your assets onto the Drop Wheel as a background, character, object, or action. Then edit to customize. There's no coding involved.
GameMaker also has Drag and Drop, which is aimed at making programming easier, but I personally found it more difficult [somehow?]. Best advice I could give on learning how to code though, is that you definitely need to be persistent.
As of I'm writing these, I'd say these are the best engines you can find for GameMaker. Not the best physics as say Harinezumi, but do the job fairly well.
