It is recommended that either a portion of the lake or the entire lake or zone, be closed to the public. In some cases, the adjacent land should be closed as well.

Dover Lake was owned by Marc Glassman (the guy who owns Marc's grocery stores.) They closed in 2006 for undisclosed reasons. Brandywine ski resort purchased it sometime within the past 5 years, and turned the tube slide area (which ran parallel to the Outer Limits hill) into a terrain park.

The lake at the Boy Scout camp provides drinking water for thousands of homes, schools and businesses in southeast Kansas, but its intake valve has been jeopardized as lake levels continue to drop.
