Plot. Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale and Terry as Toto. In rural Kansas, Dorothy Gale lives on a farm owned by her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. Dorothy's neighbor, Almira Gulch, who had been bitten by Dorothy's dog, Toto, obtains a sheriff's order authorizing her to seize Toto. Toto escapes and returns to Dorothy, who runs away to protect him.

Along the yellow brick road, Dorothy reaches a wide fork, and while confused as to which way to turn next, she also meets a talking Scarecrow, perched up on a pole in a nearby cornfield to scare off the crows. He is deeply unhappy because he can't fulfil his purpose and successfully scare the crows away.
