On April 20, 1999, MF DOOM released his debut solo album, Operation: Doomsday, following the demise of his group KMD, and his brother's unfortunate death in a car accident. As said by Pitchfork: Doomsday was birthed at a pivotal point in rap's trajectory-- at the height of the record industry's boom years.
