The only thing you need to do differently from when this was made is use glass blocks around the perimeter of the lower platform instead of slabs, because if you try to waterlog slabs then water just pours out the bottom. Otherwise everything works exactly the same as when he made that video.
I think it would be really cool if Mojang update spiders so that their underside faces the surface they are climbing on. Eg: upside down for the roof of caves or sideways for walls. I think this feature would be very much at home in the caves n cliffs update.
Spiders actually lose their aggression in the daylight. If the sky light is high enough they won't attack you. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.
