Each query or advertisement is sent to the Bonjour multicast address ipv4 224.0.0.251 (ipv6 FF02::FB). This protocol uses mDNS on UDP port 5353. The address used by the Bonjour protocol is link-local multicast address and therefore is only forwarded to the local L2 network.
To resolve a domain name for a local address using mDNS, the device sends a DNS query for a domain name ending with .local to the multicast address 224.0.0.251 (for IPv4) or FF02::FB (for IPv6).
