I've decided to play a Dwarven Cleric of Waukeen (knowledge domain). I'm really excited about this patron God but I'm struggling to create a background for my character, specifically, how my dwarf became a cleric in the first place. Does any one have some ideas of how my cleric, or any cleric in general, might fall into service of a god?
So source-wise, the only book of significant note would be the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide which describes the faith of Waukeen. Of additional, minor note is Brimstone Angels: Fine in the Blood, which shortly features a Mercenary Cleric of Waukeen (though she does little but quote Tymora and getting called out on that fact). 4.
