You determine your available spell slots by adding together all your levels in the bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard classes, and half your levels (rounded down) in the paladin and ranger classes.
On my character sheet, that's what I do for values that don't have an easy expression, such as spell slots, spells known, or number of rages/rage damage. But for things like ability modifiers from scores or proficiency bonus from level, it's much more efficient to just do the math.
Everything from how many spells you have from each class and the highest level of those spells to how many spells can you prep out of the spells you have (if you need to prep). I even took into account Warlock Pact slots and the Unrestricted spells that Eldritch Knight/Arcane Trickster can get.
