25 maj 2023 · Divine Rank is a ranking system used to rank the power of gods in D&D. In my opinion, the ranks were best fleshed out in 3rd-edition D&D. That's (I think) when they were given numbers. In a nutshell, the ranks (in 3e and earlier) go: hero-god, demigod, lesser god, intermediate god, greater god, and overgod.

The canonical power ranking (Ignoring setting-specific BS) is The Lady of Pain > Tharizdun (But he's too insane to do anything, and all the other gods chained him up to keep him from doing anything) > Moradin > Other greater deities > Other lesser deities > Kurtulmak > Demigods, hero deities, and other "Not quite god" beings.
Usually this is enforced by some type of Overgod (like Ao in forgotten realms) or a counsel of greater gods (Dragonlance), usually embodying the portfolio's of Good, Evil, and Neutrality. Or Order and Chaos, or some other primordial aspect of reality.

Some gods are worshiped on multiple worlds and have a different rank on each world, depending on their influence there. Greater deities sit at the top of the divine pantheon. They are the twelve Greek Olympians or the thirteen Norse Aesirs and Vanirs.
