RNA is an intermediate molecule that actually carries the information in DNA to the ribosomes, so the proteins can be made. RNA is made from DNA in the nucleus by a process called transcription. See Figure 1. Let’s practice transcribing a segment of DNA.
DNA replication is semi-conservative because when a new double-stranded DNA molecule is formed: • One strand is from the original template molecule (i.e. conserved) • One strand is newly synthesised (i.e. not conserved)

Resources Needed: Transcription to Protein Synthesis sheet. Genetic Code chart. Amino Acid Building Blocks of Organisms chart. Procedure: Examine the three strands of DNA provided. Transcription: On the worksheet, make the DNA strand into mRNA codons (review Transcription to Protein Synthesis sheet).
DNA TRANSCRIPTION & TRANSLATION WORKSHEET. 1) Each DNA molecule has two sides, one is called the template from which the mRNA is constructed by RNA polymerase, and the other is the coding side which codes for a protein.
Level 4: Explain how the structure of DNA allows it to replicate itself perfectly each time. Transcription: DNA vs. RNA Level 1: Identify the complementary RNA bases from the DNA stand:
