OVERALL. SCORE. Suspension and Comfort - 45% 5.0. Weight - 20% 10.0. Features and Ease of Use - 20% 7.0. Adjustability - 15% 6.0. RELATED: Best Backpacking Backpacks of 2024. $200 at Backcountry. Our Verdict. Everything about the Granite Gear Crown2 60 is designed with the minimalist hiker in mind.
Good suspension with a frame and hipbelt is required. Easy access to water bottles is a plus. Found the Crown2 for $150, shipped. Appears to be a decently rated pack that strikes a balance between frameless ultralight packs and overbuilt traditional backpacking packs.
I got the 60L crown from massdrop for $120 and it compresses quite well into roughly the size of a 35-40L pack. If you strip everything out (brain, frame, hipbelt) it should weigh around 650 grams. It may not be as light compared to the other popular packs here but it is so damn versatile and cost-effective.
Our site reviewed the original Crown VC 60, and the Crown 2 is the updated pack by Granite Gear! It's a good mix of burly and ultralight, with strong mesh pockets, a top lid and roll top closure, and a removable hip belt and frame sheet if you really want to break it down.
