I use a Keyboard Maestro script that launches at login, then activates Finder, right clicks on "Google Drive" using the 'Find Image on Screen' action, then clicks on "Remove from Sidebar" using the same action.
22 kwi 2024 · To remove the Google Chrome drive icon from desktop, which shows after you download google chrome app on mac, go to finder, General settings and uncheck "External disks" under "show these items on the desktop:" and the google disk icon will disappear from the desktop.
The only way to get rid of the drive on desktop is to hide all external drives which is far from ideal. Why they even changed it to a "drive" is mind-boggling. And the worst thing is that they've retired the old Backup & Sync app so there's no going back.
I just found a way without any override from Google Drive app: System Settings / Privacy & Security / Files and Folders / Google Drive Then you can toggle where you need (or not) the context menu for syncing.
