Inspired and guided by Project School Wellness’ free unit plan for teaching the Dimensions of Wellness, students will look at what each dimension means, relate these to their own lives, and analyze how these dimensions are interconnected to each other.
Learning objective: Participants will explore SAMHSA’s Eight Dimensions of Wellness. They will keep track of what is most important to their wellness in each dimension, for later use in creation of a self-care plan.
To achieve this type of overall wellness, a person must be healthy in nine interconnected dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, social, environmental, occupational, financial, and cultural.
This course introduces participants to the eight dimensions of wellness and the importance of a well-rounded balance of the dimensions to their personal well-being. Participants assess themselves in each dimension and develop an action plan to improve their well-being.
The 8 Dimensions of Wellness acknowledges that it takes more than physical health, or an absence of illness, to achieve optimum wellness. The 8 dimensions are: physical, intellectual, financial, environmental, spiritual, social, occupational, and emotional.
