12 paź 2023 · This event provides opportunity for the public to tour three historically significant buildings in Athens: the Fisher Manor, the Van Dyke Mansion, and Cherokee Hardware. The tour is self-guided, and the sites can be visited in any order.
Hotel, and the Tennessee Hotel. The Hotel Stafford would outlast all the others. A landmark from 1908 until 1929 was the L&if YMCA Building. This building became the site of all kinds of community affairs from town meetings to evangelistic rallies. The Glenore Hotel also became known due to its cigar manufacturing plant.
Athens is the site of Tennessee Wesleyan College (1857). Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cherokee National Forest are east of the city; Watts Bar Lake is northwest. The McMinn County Living Heritage Museum has exhibits on local history.

Founded in 1982, the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum is a private, nonprofit organization housing more than 12,000 artifacts in 30 permanent and temporary exhibits that represent the culture and history of southeast Tennessee from the 1700s to the present.
Start at Athens Market Park and stroll through downtown noting over 32 historic locations. Along the tour you will learn about the historic Battle of Athens, Robert E.
