29 maj 2007 · - It is only a No-CD patch. That means that if you have a valid license, you'll be able to install Diablo II & LOD, get the patch and play it without the CD. - You'll need the CD Key, though.
The best method would be to add your Diablo 2 and Diablo 2:LOD CDKEY to your Battle.net account. This will make you eligible to download the game and run it without a CD. Not the mention that installing Diablo 2 from a .exe on your hard drive takes about 30 seconds.
If you're running LoD, then you need not bother with the classic Cd anymore. Think about it: When playing classic, you need the CD in to play the whole game. When LoD is installel, you need the LoD CD. Obviously you cannot have both CD's in the same drive at the same time.
Download the latest patch. http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/LODPatch_114d.exe. Copy the MPQ files from the CD. You no longer even need the disk in and runs perfectly fine on Win 10 PC. It wont run at all on win10 until you patch the game manually.

I understand the latest patch of LoD allows to play the game without the CD (I got D2 & LoD from blizzard website) -- but when I attempt to run the .exe it gives me the same error of "insert cd". Anyone know a work around or fix for this?
