9 gru 2023 · We used molecular data (via Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry) from two laboratory experiments that focused on (1) microbial processing of fresh DOM and (2) photodegradation of deep-sea DOM to derive independent process-related molecular indices for biological formation and transformation (I bio) and photodegradation ...
3 cze 2024 · The following lessons and projects, organized by the four main branches of study, can be used to teach about ocean sciences: Chemical Oceanography: includes the composition of seawater and relevant biogeochemical cycles; Physical Oceanography: includes temperature, density, waves, currents, tides, and interaction with the atmosphere
27 mar 2020 · Particles raining out from the upper ocean undergo remineralization by bacteria colonized on their surface and interior, leading to an attenuation in the sinking flux of organic matter with depth.
23 maj 2008 · Abstract. The oceans harbor a tremendous diversity of marine microbes. Different functional groups of bacteria, archaea, and protists arise from this diversity to dominate various habitats and drive globally important biogeochemical cycles.
16 wrz 2016 · We analyzed taxonomic and functional community profiles to determine the factors that shape marine bacterial and archaeal communities across the global ocean. By classifying >30,000 marine microorganisms into metabolic functional groups, we were able to disentangle functional from taxonomic community variation.
The main types of physical samples collected by our Corps of Exploration are biological, geological, and water samples. Following a dive, samples are then brought to the surface for processing and preservation. Learn more about our Sampling Techniques and Processing Procedures below.
25 lis 2016 · Recognition of the threats to biodiversity and its importance to society has led to calls for globally coordinated sampling of trends in marine ecosystems. As a step to defining such efforts, we review current methods of collecting and managing marine biodiversity...
