Detroit EMS. Hey folks, I have a few questions for those either with DEMS or in the know. I’m a paramedic with 3 years on from Ohio and scheduled to take the PAT on Wednesday. From the announcement I received, the academy is starting 1/22, does anyone know the process after the PAT?

Online experience: Overall, very good. Comprehensive. Time-Intensive. NEI estimates 30-35 hours/wk per student, and I'd say they are correct, if not a little conservative. Each week's module covers 7-10 chapters of 'the Orange Book,' but the modules are not evenly distributed from a workload standpoint.
25 kwi 2010 · Highland Park and Hamtramck are completely separate cities within Detroit, HFD does some EMS when they feel like it, but they are BLS and 80-90% of the time give it to a private service they have a contract with. HPFD does NO medicals, and their EMS is contracted out to a private service also.
1 mar 2013 · I had the experience of being recruited to and working for what is hands down the worst EMS service I have seen anywhere in the entire world. There were multiple wrong experiences everyday. From abysmal medical care and knowledge to outright reckless disregard for personal and public safety.
Partnerships such as the Detroit Emergency Services Learning Community examined interventions from around the country and saw a good match for Detroit in programs to target frequent EMS users, provide on-site services at EMS “hot spots,” and connect EMS users to needed non-medical social services.
