Brigadier is the closest I've found and has described itself as inspired by Desert Strike and the Crusader games. It is very good in terms of having lots of weapons and vehicles and fun combat, but it doesn't have the complicated mission objectives or route planning element.
About 10 years ago I went to the Midwest Gaming Classic outside of Milwaukee and there was a guy that had three boxes filled with sealed desert strike games for sega. Apparently he bought it when KB Toys went out of business.
