Mammalogy—the study of mammals—is a field of science that deals with this one group of organisms from the diverse biological viewpoints of structure, function, evolutionary history, be-havior, ecology, classification, and economics. Approximately 4,000 species of living mammals and numerous extinct forms comprise the mate-rial for study.
Development of integrative approaches to mammalogy.—In this section, we focus on the changes in the discipline of mammalogy relative to the increase in number and diversity of data sets (or merging of data sets) included in a “standard” mammalogical research project.
