Vooruit (Dutch: Kunstencentrum Vooruit, [a] lit. 'Forward Arts Centre') is a historic complex in Ghent, Belgium. Vooruit was originally the festival and art centre of the Ghent-based labour movement, with a ballroom, cinema, theatre, etc. It is now mainly used for concerts and other cultural events.
19 cze 2024 · In 1982 werd het omgevormd tot een onafhankelijk sociocultureel centrum, dat uitgroeide tot het internationaal befaamde kunstencentrum dat Vooruit vandaag is. Honderden affiches en foto's illustreren het culturele leven in Gent en een eeuw socialistische beweging.
De stand van Vooruit – Gent 1913. Met de “Stand van Vooruit” wilde de coöperatieve, op enkele vierkante meter, de veelzijdigheid van haar activiteiten en het succes dat ze erbij oogstte aan de bezoekers van de wereldtentoonstelling duidelijk maken.
Het succes bleef niet enkel binnen België bekend, ook internationaal straalde de ster van de Vooruit. August Bebel, de leider van de machtige Duitse sociaaldemocraten zag het zo: “Gent is de hoofdstad van het socialisme, het staat ontegensprekelijke aan het hoofd der socialistische beweging.”
In addition, three oral history projects will be carried out on the history of the last half century of Vooruit. They will be made available in the form of a website, mobile ICT applications in the Feestlokaal Vooruit, an exhibition in the STAM and a public book.
