Darkscape was RS3's attempt at OSRS's dead man mode. It had global PvP with some cities/banks offering as safe space, but unlike DMM you didn't lose bank items or xp when you died. On top of that, they re-arranged some of the world map, changing some resource locations and what not.

It was a fork of the main RuneScape code as of late May 2015, featuring an open PvP environment without "safe zones". Furthermore, only Legacy Mode combat was available; everyone started at combat level 3; and progress in RuneScape did not affect DarkScape in any way.
