3 dni temu · The former Wadsworth School of Danvers, Massachusetts, was built in 1897 as a district schoolhouse for the growing town and is one of the finest examples of a school building designed in the Colonial Revival style in the state. The large building held four classrooms (two on each floor) for over 200 pupils with stairhalls at either entrance and was designed by local architect, William H. Pearce.
8 maj 2020 · As the town of Danvers grew after the Civil War, the need for larger neighborhood schools became apparent. Land was acquired from Gilbert A. Tapley's estate in 1895, and $14,500 was appropriated for the design and construction of an eight room school building.
Since its creation as a town in 1750s, Danvers supported town grammar schools in its several neighborhoods during portions of each year. In 1794, the town (then consisting of both present day Danvers and Peabody) was divided into school districts. Each district was managed by a prudential committee composed of interested neighbors.
Though 17 miles north of Boston, and partially bounded by the cities of Salem and Beverly, the town of Danvers with its 13 1/2 square mile area and 24,000 population still retains much of the hominess and architectural heritage of old New England.

The Fox Hill School is a historic school building at 81 Water Street in Danvers, Massachusetts, USA. Built in 1879 and in use as a school until the 1970s, it is one of two surviving one-room schoolhouses in the town.
Daniel Epes, Jr., had been a prime mover in calling for the establishment of what now became the District of Danvers, Massachusetts. Epes was son and grandson of two other Daniels, the grandfather having been the famed 17th century Salem schoolmaster.
