Statins include atorvastatin (Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol XL), lovastatin (Altoprev), pitavastatin (Livalo), pravastatin, rosuvastatin (Crestor) and simvastatin (Zocor). Having too much cholesterol in the blood increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Furthermore, evidence continues to emerge regarding advice that can be given about adverse effects when taking statins. Updated systematic reviews are therefore required to determine whether recommendations in these areas should be amended to reflect the current evidence base.
