I killed my first alpha tuso last night and got a Mastercraft fishing rod from it. After doing some googling, I had the lake in the western part of the redwoods and hidden lake recommended to me. I looked at both locations and couldn't find any fish higher than 1.3x.

In my single player game i built on the outcrop directly north of the hidden lake, next to the beach. Easily defendable against the occasional rex, a crap load of space that is not too difficult to build on and easy access to the beavers and other goodies in the hidden lake itself.
