Dahlonega (/ d ə ˈ l ɒ n ɪ ɡ ə / də-LON-ig-ə) is the county seat of Lumpkin County, Georgia, United States. [4] As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 5,242, [5] and in 2018 the population was estimated to be 6,884. [6] Dahlonega is located at the north end of Georgia highway 400, a freeway which connects Dahlonega to Atlanta.

During the 1950s citizens of Dahlonega provided gold for the state capitol building to be gold leafed. Inspired by the results a similar project was started to gold leaf the steeple of Price Memorial.

Incorporated on December 21, 1833, Dahlonega was the site of the first significant gold rush in the United States. Between 1838 and 1861, a U.S. Branch Mint produced the Half Eagle, Quarter Eagle, Gold Dollar, and the Three Dollar Gold coins locally.
The gold-topped Price Memorial Hall, on the campus of North Georgia College and State University, rises above Dahlonega, the seat of Lumpkin County. The site of a gold rush in 1828-29, Dahlonega today attracts tourists interested in both its history and scenic mountain setting.
