OPERS calculates defined benefit pensions according to a formula that considers service credit, the age at which you retire and your final average salary, as well as your retirement group. Traditional Pension Plan members can use the Benefit Estimator, available through their online account, to project pensions under different scenarios.
The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System has been providing retirement benefits to Ohio's public employees since 1935. OPERS serves more than 1 million past and present Ohio workers including state, local and municipal employees as well as state college and university employees.
A: OPERS retirees who have a benefit effective date prior to Jan. 7, 2013, automatically receive a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment. Those with an effective date after that date have their COLAs based on the Consumer Price Index-W, the government’s inflation index for urban wage earners and clerical workers.
