The clinical literature indicates that most palpable thyroid nodules are benign (90-95%) [3, 19]. However, in our study, we found a 3.9% prevalence of malignancy (95% CI: 1.8-7.3%) and a 7.4% prevalence of malignant potential (95% CI: 4.4-11.6%) among incidental lesions of the thyroid gland.
