Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a β herpes virus with double-stranded DNA, had a high seroprevalence of 40% to 100% in various populations. CMV gastritis is a rare and under-diagnosed disease, usually presenting as a co-comorbidity of disseminated CMV infection. The prevalence of CMV infection of the upper gastrointestinal tract has not been determined.

7 wrz 2017 · Cytomegalovirus (CMV) sometimes causes gastritis, especially in immunocompromised patients, but whether CMV gastritis promotes the development of gastric cancer is unknown. Here, we report a case of gastric cancer that developed in the presence of CMV gastritis, which had been present for at least 4 years and was refractory to treatment.
