I help out both of them, providing custom truss rods and special hardware, and some machining services. Keith and I used make up some custom necks directly for customers, but these days, we only make them for each other; a small group of Luthiers here in the Los Angeles area.
Our 4 string bass necks are the standard spec 34″ scale length with 2-1/2″ wide heel. They are made with 2 piece construction (separate back and fingerboard) with a vintage style truss rod and a pair of graphite stiffening bars to keep the neck lightweight and stable. Choose 20 or 21 frets, peghead shape, neck thickness, nut width, inlays, etc.
