Curtis Sliwa (/ ˈ s l i w ə /; born March 26, 1954) is an American activist, radio talk show host, and founder and chief executive officer of the Guardian Angels, a nonprofit crime prevention organization.
Residents of the City resigned themselves to the reality as the politicians and police seemed powerless. However a young man from Brooklyn, Curtis Sliwa, felt someone had to do something. So he stepped forward, forming "The Maginficent 13" with thirteen coworkers of the McDonalds Curtis managed.
The Guardian Angels is a non-profit international volunteer organization with the goal of unarmed crime prevention. The Guardian Angels organization was founded on February 13, 1979, in New York City, by Curtis Sliwa. Since then, it has expanded to more than 130 cities and 13 countries worldwide.
