Since 1963, Texas has required institutions, businesses and governmental entities to report to the state any personal property that has been unclaimed for up to five years, depending on the property in question.
You can access the Property Search page through the menu by hovering over Claiming Property > "Search for Unclaimed Property," or by simply clicking the GET STARTED button on the home page. Type in Last or Business Name and First Name when applicable in the corresponding fields and click SEARCH.
The first step in reporting unclaimed property is to determine if the property is abandoned. To do that, you'll need to figure out if you've had communication or other business dealings with the property owner during the abandonment period.
