I’ve been buying 40lb hardwood bags (Cubex brand) for $6.50/bag. Those are labeled as <.38% ash and 9000 BTU. I can get 40lb softwood bags (Wood and Sons brand) for pretty much the exact same price, but those are labeled as .25%-.5% ash and only 8700 BTU.

16 paź 2012 · Cubex are generally regarded as a premium high heat, low ash pellet so that price is average for this time of year. I personally had problems burning them in my stove but many folks love them. As usual, the correct answer is to try a few bags before buying bulk.
It’s a decent price for a good quality hardwood pellet. Would prefer to see them closer to $250, but sure would spring at $279 if needed some this time of season. Look at it this way, the boxes are getting $249 - $259 so an extra few bucks for cubex is fine.
