In computed tomography (CT), an x-ray tube moves around the body and continuously projects a thin fan of x-rays through the body. Electronic detectors opposite the tube continuously monitor the number of x-rays passing through the body and the angle at which the beam is being projected.

Dogs get CT scans in the same machines as people do, just at veterinary hospitals instead of human hospitals.
A computed tomography, or CT, scan is a diagnostic test where multiple x-rays are taken of an area, and a computer puts them together to create a 3D view, rather than the 2D view provided by plain x-rays. Sometimes the term CAT scan is used, for computed axial tomography.
