Habitat: Atlantic croaker are found in both muddy and sandy bottom areas all along the East Coast from Cape Cod, Mass., to the South Atlantic and Gulf coasts to central Mexico. In North Carolina, it is found throughout coastal waters.
The Atlantic croaker is native to coastal waters in the western Atlantic Ocean. Its range extends from Massachusetts to Mexico and includes the northern half of the Caribbean Sea but possibly not the southern Gulf of Mexico or the Antilles. It is also thought to live on the coasts of southern Brazil and Argentina.
Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulates) are a bottom-dwelling species, in the same family as red drum and weakfish. They can be found from the Gulf of Maine to Argentina, but along the US Atlantic coast, they are most abundant from the Chesapeake Bay to northern Florida.

Croaker fish can be found anywhere in central Florida waters and along the Atlantic coast all the way up to New Jersey. They can also be found in the north waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They're most often caught in bays with sandy, hard bottoms, near beaches in river outlets and in the surf.
