CPT Guideline: Instructions, such as definitions, that provide clinical reporting information on a block of CPT content. Each section of CPT content has a set of guidelines as do many of the headings.
The American Medical Association (AMA) is responsible for all decisions for additions, deletions, or revisions of the CPT codes. CPT codes are updated annually. CPT does not include codes regularly billed by medical suppliers other than QHPs to report medical items or services.
The CPT coding system is a listing of codes and descriptors for reporting services and procedures performed by physicians. It is also a key component in almost all physician payment arrangements. The system was devised and is maintained by the American Medical Association (AMA), in cooperation with national medical specialty societies.
