Coppélia (sometimes subtitled: La Fille aux Yeux d'Émail (The Girl with the Enamel Eyes) [1]) is a comic ballet from 1870 originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Léo Delibes, with libretto by Charles-Louis-Étienne Nuitter.
scenografia: Charles-Antoin Carbon, Eduard Despléchin i Jean-Baptiste Lavastre (dekoracje), Paul Lormier (kostiumy). Premiera: Paryż, 25 maja 1870, Théatre de l'Opera z 16-letnią Giuseppiną Bozzacchi w roli Swanildy i Eugénie Fiocre w roli Frantza. Balet został dobrze przyjęty.

The result was the first symphonic ballet score that included melodic national dances, musical descriptions that introduced the main characters, and spectacular effects that held the interest of the audience. The music of Coppélia links two great historical periods of ballet — the French Romantic style and the Russian Classical style.
Cast of Characters. Dr Coppelius is a lonely old alchemist who lives in a two-storey house on the edge of the village square. He is regarded by the villagers as a sorcerer, someone who conducts strange experiments in his laboratory. They fear him and ridicule him.
