All over ebay, National Collector’s Mint has been making these since 2011. Its seems as if the sole purpose is to trick Americans into overpaying for these "patriotic" coins. Cook Islands has lots of coins and these are the only ones i've seen with this deceptive purity and markings.

The Cooks have their own Kiwi designed and operated circulation coins, and NONE of the commemorative junk would be available to buy or use there.

26 kwi 2020 · If the seller had described it as a 1/10th ounce gold coin... but did not show or disclose the purity was only .24, then that would be deceptive and taking buyers for a ride. But in the cases given, the fault does not seem to be with the seller.
These coins and this shadiness pop up on reddit a few times per year. Cook Islands is legit and has some great stuff. The "National Collectors Mint" is shady AF, based in New York, and not actually affiliated with the Cook Islands. Buy from reputable mints.
